Modelling & Track Ballast

The Ballasting of your railway is one of those Marmite moments you either love it or hate it. Even though the ballast may not be the required colour, but it can be easily painted and detailed once in situ and dried as I have done on my layout.

All my ballast is sourced in the UK.
To aid I have done a little chart to show how much ballast you would need based on how I laid it on my Layout.
1kg covers an area 170cm Long by 20cm wide.
2kg covers an area 340cm long by 20cm wide.
5kg covers an area 700cm long by 300 wide.
8kg covers an area 1000cm long by 25cm wide.
10kg covers an area 1400cm long by 30cmwide.
